Villarreal’s internationals have completed the first set of group games in the continental tournament
Samu Chukwueze and Boulaye Dia both featured for their countries as they won their Africa Cup of Nations openers. The Nigerian winger started and played 72 minutes as the Super Eagles beat Egypt 1-0, while the Senegalese striker played 77 minutes as his team defeated Zimbabwe 1-0.
Côte d’Ivoire also beat Equatorial Guinea 0-1. However, Serge Aurier did not feature for his country due to suspension. Aïssa Mandi was unable to start the tournament with a win. The Yellows defender started Algeria’s game against Sierra Leone and played the entire 90 minutes of the 0-0 draw.
