The Yellow Submarine will face the Swiss side once again on Tuesday 22nd July at 7pm CEST
Villarreal CF will have the chance to redeem themselves against FC St. Gallen after last summer’s pre-season clash, which ended in a heavy 6-1 defeat for the Yellows.
The match will take place at Kybunpark, FC St. Gallen’s home ground, which has a capacity of 20,000 spectators. It will be the second of two fixtures Villarreal will play during their training camp in Switzerland (17th–25th July).
Founded in 1879, FC St. Gallen is the oldest club in Switzerland and the second oldest in continental Europe. The team hails from the city of St. Gallen, located in the north-east of the country near the German border and home to 80,000 residents.
The Swiss side has a long domestic history, having won two Swiss Super League titles and one Swiss Cup. However, their presence on the European stage has been limited, with only a few appearances in the Cup Winners’ Cup, UEFA Cup and Champions League qualifiers.
FC St. Gallen are currently managed by Enrico Maassen, who is entering his second season in charge. He previously coached in the Bundesliga with FC Augsburg and also worked with the youth teams at Borussia Dortmund.
Among the most notable players to wear the club’s colours are Paraguayan forward Saturnino Cardozo and Chilean midfielder Fabián Estay. However, the club’s most recognised figure internationally is Iván Zamorano. The legendary Chilean striker, who played for Real Madrid and Sevilla, spent two seasons with FC St. Gallen.
