The Yellows will celebrate qualifying for the top European competition with their fans at La Cerámica against Sevilla (Sunday, 4:15pm CEST)
Villarreal CF have officially secured their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. With one game to spare and after sealing fifth place away to the league champions, the Yellows have clinched the thrilling objective they have fought for all season long. Now, with everything already decided, Sunday’s 4:15pm CEST clash against Sevilla FC at the Estadio de la Cerámica will be a true celebration.
Marcelino’s side will take to the pitch ready to put on a show and share the joy of Champions League qualification with their home fans. The Submarine will aim to finish the campaign on a high, turning La Cerámica into a festive backdrop after a superb season in which the team have performed at an exceptional level and reconnected fully with the crowd in the closing stages of the campaign.
This final fixture offers a fantastic opportunity to fill the Estadio de la Cerámica one last time this season. A day of ovations, tributes and well-deserved recognition awaits the players who have earned Villarreal a place in Europe’s top competition for the sixth time in the club’s history (2005, 2008, 2011, 2016, 2021 and 2025).
After three seasons away, Villarreal will return to the UEFA Champions League. This time, La Cerámica will host Europe’s elite under the lights of its stunning new look following its major renovation in 2023. With a refreshed image but the same passion for magical European nights, fans will once again dream of moments like Arruabarrena’s goal against Inter Milan (2005/06) or Danjuma’s strike versus Bayern Munich (2021/22).
Marcelino’s magic delivers once again
Marcelino García Toral continues to make history at Villarreal CF. The Asturian manager has broken his personal best points tally as Villarreal boss in the top flight—surpassing the 64-point mark from the 2015/16 season with the victory over FC Barcelona, taking the total to 67. That number could still rise to 70 with a final triumph over Sevilla.
The end of the season could not have gone better. Villarreal have won five straight games, dancing to the rhythm of ‘La Morocha’. In the toughest stretch of the campaign, the Submarine rose to the occasion and pulled away from closest rivals Real Betis, securing a hotly-contested fifth place that, for the first time in LALIGA history, brings Champions League football.
Goals have been plentiful for Marcelino’s men. With one match to go, Villarreal are the third-highest scorers in the league, thanks in part to the electric form of Ayoze Pérez. The Tenerife-born striker has netted 19 goals in LALIGA, including a crucial strike against FC Barcelona, marking his best ever season as a professional. He is now on course to win the coveted Zarra Trophy, potentially joining Gerard Moreno as the only Villarreal players to achieve the feat.
Whatever the outcome on Sunday, celebrations will begin at full-time. A spectacle is guaranteed at La Cerámica, with plenty of surprises in store.
