The Yellows head coach underlines that physical fitness will pay an important part in trying to get the three points against Granada
Villarreal manager Javi Calleja has appeared in front of the press in a virtual press conference ahead of the game with Granada CF (Friday, 7:30pm CEST). The head coach hailed the upcoming opponent’s great season so far: “They’re a very competitive team. They’ve been working on the way they play for for a number of years and they use their strengths well. They’re dangerous from set pieces and they’re playing really well. They’re one of our direct rivals and we need to be at the very best level physically and mentally to get a good result from a difficult match.”
For Calleja, physical fitness will will play an important role in the outcome of the tie: “It’s a game that we will need to grow into. Granada are an intense side and we will need to avoid fouls near our box. After, the team that is fresher towards the end of the game, will have more chance of winning. Substitutes could also be key. At the end of the day, whoever deals with the players best and has a better state of mind will be more confident going into the games.”
The Yellows manager recognises that Villarreal are confident going into the game after two wins in a row: “The wins give us trust in ourselves. I don’t want to think long-term and constantly be looking at the table. We only need to think in Granada. We need to focus on each game because there are still quite a few left. We need to try and get to the end of the season with it in our own hands.”
