The Yellows coach predicts a tight game against a solid and competitive Valladolid side
Villarreal manager Javi Calleja appeared in front of the media to analyse the upcoming match against Real Valladolid (Friday, 9pm CET) at the Estadio José Zorrilla: “It’s a big match and one that we have no choice but to win. We have to trust in the work we’re doing, and above everything, we need to keep our positive attitude, to keep the good feelings and winning mentality until the end of the season. We need to believe in ourselves and show something new every game.”
Regarding the upcoming opponent, the coach warned about the commitment and potential of Valladolid: “They’re a competitive side, it’s hard to hurt them. They’re a very committed opponent who always give 100%. I am predicting a very tough tie because they are a direct rival, but I hope to see a brave Villarreal side, one that takes the initiative. We have to show that we believe we can win and that a draw doesn’t help us. The only result that helps us is a win.”
Calleja also added that he hasn’t ruled out playing the same formation that he lined up with against Espanyol in upcoming matches: “We are looking to continue with the same ideas, and like that, the middle of the pitch is a strength for us. We win a lot in depth and attitude. The team looks more consistent with three at the back. It’s a system that helps us a lot and the team is fully behind playing that way.”
