The Villarreal manager underlines that the team is ‘very excited’ for the opportunities in the Europa League
Villarreal head coach Javi Calleja underlined his satisfaction with the hard work put in by his team after beating Zenit 2-1 and qualifying for the UEFA Europa League quarter finals. “We’re very confident in this competition. We’re really excited by it. We brought a good result into this match from the first leg and in the second, we knew how to play to kill it off with the two goals we got.”
With the win, Villarreal now have three victories in a row. “I always like to win. We have three consecutive victories and now we’ll go for the fourth. It’s a final against Rayo. The team is growing, both individually and collectively. We have to continue like that. We shouldn’t stop believing and winning,” said Calleja.
The Yellows beat Zenit thanks to gaols from Gerard Moreno and Carlos Bacca: “That the strikers are on form is very positive. Hopefully they continue like that until the end of the season. They have quality and talent. The most decisive part of the season is still to come and we need them.”
To conclude, Calleja highlighted the importance of continuing like this in European competition. “You have to try and win every game in every competition to get as far as possible. This keeps all the squad focused because there is game time for everyone. It’s more bearable is there’s a positive dynamic.”
