Layún emphasises that Villarreal were intelligent and made the most of their chances against CD Leganés
Mexican footballer Miguel Layún appeared in front of the press this lunch time at the Villarreal training ground (Ciudad Deportiva) to analyse the current happenings regarding the Yellow Submarine. The versatile player expressed his happiness at being able to significantly contribute to the win against Leganes: “We were intelligent, we knew how to suffer and make the most of the opportunity we had to get the victory. I am very happy that I could help the team by doing my job and helping us get a victory that is going to give us a lot of confidence for the upcoming matches.”
The Yellows No.24, who assisted the only goal of the match and also hit the post with a free-kick at Butarque, underlines the importance of set pieces in football nowadays. “Set pieces have become very important in football at the moment, they are much more organised now. They are starting to be key deciders of matches. Hopefully being strong at set pieces adds something extra to the team’s armoury and can in the long run give us good results,” commented Layún.
Furthemore, Layún brought up the tight nature of the start of the league so far: “LaLiga has started very evenly-matched and every point is difficult. I don’t remember a start of a season like this in recent seasons. It will be a quite tight league. Because of that, it is important to get points from the beginning of the season. The points you get in these moments of the season could be crucial.”
Focusing on getting three points in our first European game of the season against Rangers FC, Layún predicts a fighting and physically strong opponent this Thursday (Estadio de la Cerámica, 6.55pm): “I believe it will be a similar match to the one in Butarque. They’re a very physical team and to beat them we need to be focused on our style of play.”
