The Submarine captain celebrates 260 league matches as a Yellow: “I’m extremely proud”
On Monday, Bruno Soriano became the footballer to play the most matches for Villarreal CF in the First Division with 260 appearances. He was already the Submarine’s most capped player counting all competitions, but after the Atlético de Madrid match he overtook Marcos Senna in the league (259 appearances) too.
The Submarine captain was very happy: “I’m extremely proud to be the player to have played the most matches in the history of Villarreal, and even more so to overtake Marcos Senna, who has been a great role model and friend for me. I was lucky to be able to play with him”.
Bruno hopes to play many more matches as a Yellow: “I will try to look after myself as well as possible to be able to keep playing and help this team to achieve its goals in the future”.
The footballer from Artana, who made his debut in the top flight of Spanish football for Villarreal ten seasons ago, in the 2006/07 campaign, has played 260 league matches for the Yellows. Bruno made his debut in the First Division in October of 2006 and played 26 minutes in the team’s 1-2 win against Mallorca.
In these 260 matches, Bruno Soriano has won 121, drew 66 and lost 73, and scored a total of 19 goals. The current Submarine captain’s numbers beat those of Senna, who played 259 matches with 112 wins, 73 draws and 74 losses, scoring 20 goals.
Senna, who came to Villarreal from Sao Caetano in 2002, played for Villarreal for 11 seasons, 10 in the First Division, and left the club after getting the team promoted back to the First Division in 2013.
