The Villarreal captain has been included in the confirmed list of 19 players
Villarreal centre midfielder and captain, Bruno Soriano, will play in the UEFA EURO 2016 championship in France with the Spanish national team, after being included in the confirmed list of 19 players chosen by manager Vicente del Bosque. The final 23-man squad will be announced this afternoon. The midfielder from Artana will represent Spain for the first time in an international championship, the competition taking place between 10th June -10th July.
Bruno had already showed himself to be a strong candidate to go to the EUROs in last Sunday’s match against Bosnia (3-1), in which he started the game and played the full 90 minutes. To date, the Yellows captain has played seven matches with Spain, six of those friendlies (against Mexico, U.S.A., South Korea, Serbia, Germany and Bosnia) and one a qualifier for the said tournament (against Belarus).
The match schedule for Spain, in Group D, will be the following:
- Monday 13th June, 3pm CET: Spain vs Czech Republic (Toulouse stadium).
- Friday 17th June, 9pm CET: Spain vs Turkey (Niza stadium).
- Tuesday 21st June, 9pm CET: Croatia vs Spain (Burdeos stadium).
Senna: “He’s earnt it and I’m really happy for him”
Marcos Senna, member of the Villarreal CF Institutional Relations Department, was very happy after finding out the news that Bruno has been chosen as part of the Spanish squad to go to the UEFA EURO 2016 tournament in France: “I’m really happy for Bruno and I hope it goes well for him. We knew it would be difficult for him to go to the EUROs as it’s always uncertain to the end. It’s great news for all of us because we have a representative at the EUROs from Villarreal. I hope that he can play and win”.
For the ex Villarreal CF and Spain footballer, Bruno’s inclusion in the squad is more than deserved: “Bruno has earnt it. He’s a spectacular player and person. He should have been in the national team before, but in the end he’s got the reward he deserves after Villarreal’s magnificent campaign”.
Senna won the EURO 2008 championship in Austria and Switzerland with Spain. “It wouldn’t be fair to choose one best memory from my professional football career, because I’ve had so many, but winning the EUROs with Spain was unforgettable; such a beautiful moment and I hope Spain will win it again and Bruno will get to experience that feeling first hand”, Senna concluded.
