Villarreal CF will look to claim their first win of the season in the Champions League (Tuesday, 9pm CET)
Villarreal CF travel to Germany with excitement and ambition as they aim for their first victory of the season in the demanding UEFA Champions League. The Yellow Submarine face Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday at 9pm CET at the BVB Stadion Dortmund.
The Yellows go into their fifth Champions League fixture of the season sitting third in LALIGA with 29 points from a possible 39, confirming the best league start in the club’s history at the top level.
In the UEFA Champions League, Marcelino García Toral’s side continue fighting—with hunger and a desire to keep making history—to secure a place among the top 24 teams and qualify for the next phase of the competition. So far, the team has collected one point after facing some of Europe’s elite: Tottenham (1-0), Juventus (2-2), Manchester City (0-2) and Pafos (1-0).
Borussia Dortmund, a historic team in Europe
Borussia Dortmund, UEFA Champions League winners in 1996/97, are one of Europe’s historic clubs. Currently coached by Niko Kovač, the German side have recorded two wins—Athletic (4-1) and København (2-4)—one draw—Juventus (4-4)—and one defeat—Manchester City (4-1)—in the Champions League. Their only home match to date was against Athletic Club.
In the Bundesliga, the Black and Yellow have experienced two consecutive draws, against Stuttgart (3-3) and Hamburger SV (1-1).
