Villarreal Women head coach Virginia García expects a tough and physical clash against Cacereño (Saturday, 12pm CET)
Villarreal Women head coach Virginia García has analysed the upcoming match against Cacereño (Saturday, 12pm CET) this morning. Here is what she had to say:
A key match to turn things around
“It’s true that we’re on a bad run and we have to be conscious that we have to improve a number of things. This week has been very good and the players have been working really well. We’re aware that the match is very important for us, both in terms of getting out of this negative run and to positively assess the work that we’re doing. Sometimes, that work gets its compensation with points, but sometimes it doesn’t, and football is like that. We need to get those positive results as soon as possible to give us confidence, and because we need those points.”
Next up: Cacereño
“We’re facing the team, alongside Deportivo Alavés, who are strongest at home in this league. Cacereño are always a tough opponent to face, who get a lot of points at home and have a lot of clean sheets, and that’s not down to luck. They’re working well, they’re solid in defence, they’re a very physical team, especially at their ground. We know what we have to do to be ourselves at Cacereño’s ground, and we know what we have to not do, and we will try and make that shown tomorrow in the match.”
Having control of the ball and being solid in defence
“It’s not an excuse, but it’s true that we’ve had a lot of players injured who have had a lot of minutes with us, and that has affected us, but the squad is very competitive, it’s deep, and I have a lot of trust in the players. It’s just dynamics, dynamics which have to be left behind if they’re negative, and it’s key to return to being ourselves, to be solid in defence, to have control of the ball and to work on strengthening our identity, and for that to be reflected on Saturday, hopefully with a win.”
