Villarreal’s powerful French-Congolese striker is shining in Yellow once more
Villarreal’s French-Congolese striker, Cédric Bakambu, has scored a goal in each of the Submarine’s last two matches at the Estadio de la Cerámica against Real Madrid and RCD Espanyol. The best ‘Bakagoal’ has returned after his absence at the start of the year when he was away playing at the African Cup of Nations for the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Bakambu was Villarreal’s top goal scorer last season. In this campaign he has scored five goals between the LaLiga Santander (4) and Copa del Rey (1) competitions. The Yellows number 17 has his sights firmly set on Sunday’s match against Celta de Vigo at the Balaídos stadium: “We don’t have a European match and so we’re preparing well for this fixture. Celta are a great team. Last year we played against them twice and didn’t win, so I hope it’s different this time”.
Bakambu also commented: “Yes it’s difficult to get to fourth place, but anything can be achieved in football. I think we have a great team and we can go after the fourth place because we’re strong. For me it’s really easy to play with a player like Soldado. I’m lucky to play with him and I’m happy because I’m playing well, I have worked hard and you can see that the team and I are playing better, and I have to keep going like this”.
The Yellows fans idolize him. In the last match the crowd cheered his name after he scored past Diego López. The “Ba-kam-bu” chant is becoming more and more routine in the stands of the Estadio de la Cerámica, and deservedly so.
