The Villarreal CF fans have chosen the goalkeeper as last month’s best player
Alphonse Areola has been named January’s Five-star player. The Yellows fans have chosen the French goalkeeper as the best player of the month, for the second time this season, via Twitter. Mahou, sponsor of the Submarine, drives this award.
The young goalkeeper has been an undisputed starter since his arrival last summer, starting in all league matches and clearly improving with every game. The Yellows supporters have valued his great performances by awarding him with this prize.
Areola was very grateful when receiving the award from Javier Querol, of Mahou San Miguel: “It’s the second time I’ve been given this award and I hope that there will be many more, because this will mean that the team is doing well. Team awards are always more important than the individual ones, but it is always nice to have your hard work recognized. Since my arrival at Villarreal, I’ve been treated very well and I hope that I can continue performing at this level to help achieve the team’s goals.”
The French goalkeeper, of Philippine descent, played in the youth categories of Paris Saint-Germain for two seasons before he joined the first team. During the last three seasons, apart from the Parisian team, he also played for RC Lens and SC Bastia on loan. he came to Villarreal CF last summer also as a loan signing.
The way to choose the Five-star player is simple. Every month, fans vote via Twitter for the team’s best player. To do it correctly, users have to tweet the name of their chosen player with the hash tag #Jugador5EstrellasCVF during the set period of time. Once this time limit is up, the votes are counted up to determine the winner.
Through this initiative Mahou Cinco Estrellas can announce the month’s stand out players of. The prize is given by the fans on Twitter, on the profile @futbolmahou with the collaboration of the Villarreal CF official Twitter account (@villarrealcf).
The Five-star player award will be given out every month during the season. Don’t forget to vote for your favourite player for February. Be aware and check the @futbolmahou and @villarrealcf pages, where the winners and the opening date for voting will be published.
