The right back has drawn level with Marcos Senna as the player with the second most top-flight matches for Villarreal CF
Against Real Sociedad, Mario Gaspar reached his 259th match in the top flight of Spanish football with Villarreal, equalling the games played by club legend Marcos Senna. Only Bruno Soriano, with 281 games, is ahead of him. “Equalling the record of a legend like Marcos Senna makes me proud. Both him and Bruno, as well as Cazorla, are players to look up to at Villarreal. Now, I’m just hoping to get a lot more games,” he added.
The Yellows No.2 provided an assist to Santi Cazorla at the Reale Arena: “I’m in a good place. There are a lot of games, and there’s a time for everyone. You have to be at 100% to make the most of your chances,” underlined Mario.
Regarding the upcoming Copa del Rey tie against Orihuela, the defender underlined that both him and his team-mates are excited to be taking part in the competition: “The cup is something that excites everyone. We want to do things well, and we also want to continue winning. We know that matches like these are dangerous and they can get difficult at any time.”
Mario warns that complacency cannot slip in against a team that is currently in Segunda División B: “We want to go through, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves. Everything can even out in a match, so we need to be at our very best to get through. Orihuela are a good team that shouldn’t be in the position they are in the league. We want to go through and go as far as possible in the cup.”
