The Valencian coach is not misled by the league table and expects a very demanding clash against Betis Deportivo (Friday, 8.30pm)
Villarreal B head coach David Albelda spoke to V Play to analyse the build‑up to the reserve team’s upcoming match against Betis Deportivo, corresponding to Matchday 25 of Group II of the Primera Federación, which will be played this Friday at 8.30pm at the Luis del Sol Training Ground.
During his appearance, Albelda highlighted the good form of the Mini Submarine, despite not playing their last scheduled match, which was postponed due to the strong winds that affected the Valencian Community: “The team is doing well. We’ve gone several matches without losing and have deserved more than our opponents. The trend is very positive, but every match is different. Now we face a dangerous Betis side who are fighting in the relegation zone. They changed coach and have been unbeaten since then, achieving great results. They’re scoring a lot of goals, although they’re also conceding.”
In his analysis of Betis Deportivo, the Villarreal B coach admitted that the two teams share many similarities: “They use the same tactical system as us. They have young players, quality and dynamism. They’re strong in one‑on‑one situations. They stand out because they play with wide, attack‑minded wingers and they impose a very high rhythm. I expect a difficult match, regardless of what the table says. They’ve improved a lot over the past month. It will be very demanding. They’ve been capable of beating Ibiza or scoring four goals away at Sanluqueño stadium. It will be tough.”
To win, Albelda stresses the importance of maintaining a strong defensive performance without losing the team’s identity: “I think we need to be very solid defensively. If we achieve that, we’ll have chances to score. Offensively, they have a lot of movement and score plenty of goals. We must take that into account, while still imposing our identity: attacking the opposition box and looking to score goals, even if it means we might leave a bit of space at the back.”
