Mario González (2) and Carlos Martínez (2) scored the goals against UE Llagostera at the Mini Estadi
A goal fest at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva). The Villarreal B team put in a spectacular performance against Llagostera to pick up three important points, moving them to within touching distance of the play-off zone. The Reserves’ goals were scored by Carlos Martínez and Mario González, who got themselves a brace each.
The Yellows Reserves went ahead early on after a mistake made by the visitors’ goalkeeper, Moragón. Mario González snatched the ball from the feet of the goalkeeper, poking the ball into the net. Then it was Mario again in the 21st minute who played the assist to Carlos Martínez for the second goal of the game. Mario got on the end of a great ball by Raba, cut his control back and hit a driven cross to Carlos Martínez whose shot went in off the inside of the post.
The Villarreal B team were playing better than Llagostera and it showed on the score board at the Mini Estadi. Paco López’s side were pressuring high up and the defence was tight, thus the third goal did not take long to come. This time from the penalty spot. Mario was taken down in the box by visitors’ goalkeeper and the Yellows captain, Carlos Martínez, made no mistake about converting his spot kick.
Llagostera came out strong in the second half. In fact, in the 56th minute the side from Girona had a goal disallowed, but then in the 58th minute got themselves on the score board. Manel scored past Cantero with a header from a wide free kick.
The match gained momentum, but was sentenced with another goal from Mario González. This time the Villarreal B goal scorers changed roles. Carlos Martínez set up Mario with a ball over the top and the striker controlled with his head and hit a rocket of a shot past the Llagostera keeper.
The Villarreal B team’s next match is on Saturday 11th February against Valencia Mestalla away (6pm CET).
