The Yellows Reserves beat Atlético Saguntino with goals from Carlos Martínez (2) and Doffo
An exciting encounter right up until the final whistle. The Villarreal B team picked up three points in what was a thrilling victory over Atlético Saguntino. The home side equalized after going a goal down early on, they then took the lead but saw the visitors level the match in the final minutes. The Yellows had the last say though and scored the third and game winning goal just before the final whistle. The Mini Submarine’s goals were courtesy of Carlos Martínez (2) and Agustín Doffo, the last of which sent the stand crazy at the Mini Estadi. These three points were of the utmost importance for the Reserves.
Atlético Saguntino went ahead in the 12th minute. Néstor got in front of his defender and hit a first time shot into the bottom corner after a well placed cross from the right wing. Ander Canterano had no chance and the Reserves found themselves on the back foot once again.
The Villarreal B team were far from discouraged though and went in search of the equalizer in earnest. Ramiro got on the end of a great through ball by Cantalapiedra in the box, and hit a driven cross across goal that Carlos Martínez just had to tap in at the back post.
The Yellows’ comeback was complete in the second half. In the 70th minute Felipe set off down the right wing and put in a driven cross that was converted by Carlos Martínez again, who powered home with a great right footed strike. A brilliant goal. The hard work was done, but Atlético Saguntino had other ideas. Fas equalized with a fantastic free-kick to make it 2-2 in the 87th minute. An unfair end. With only three minutes left on the clock it seemed the game was set to finish in a draw. But there was another twist to the script.
Argentinean centre midfielder, Agustín Doffo, let a left footed strike fly from the edge of the box and the Atlético Saguntino goalkeeper, Lluna, could not keep the slow, looped shot out of his net. A hard fought, but well deserved victory for the Villarreal B team.
The Mini Submarine’s next match will be against Hércules, from Alicante, away from home, time still to be confirmed.
