Moleiro, Buchanan, Gueye and Comesaña have scored a total of 22 goals this season
With goals from Santi Comesaña and Pape Gueye, Villarreal CF claimed three valuable points in a vibrant derby against Valencia CF (2-1). The midfielders were decisive in front of goal: the Galician arriving from deep to score the equaliser, and the Senegalese midfielder taking responsibility from the penalty spot.
The goalscoring contribution of Villarreal’s midfielders has been a constant this season. While Comesaña and Gueye were the protagonists in the regional derby, other midfielders such as Alberto Moleiro and Buchanan have delivered memorable goalscoring performances.
The Tenerife-born midfielder, who has nine goals, scored twice against Real Sociedad (2-3), while the Canadian, with five goals to his name, netted a hat-trick against Girona (5-0) on Matchday 2.
A 40% goalscoring contribution
In total, Moleiro, Buchanan, Gueye and Comesaña have scored an impressive 22 of Villarreal’s 58 goals this season — almost 40% of the team’s tally across the three competitions. The second line certainly packs a punch.
