Villarreal B, who were better than their opponents, had chances to win the tie
Villarreal B and Intercity shared the points in the match played on Friday afternoon at the Mini Estadi which kicked off Matchday 33 of the 2024/25 Primera RFEF season. A draw that left neither team satisfied. The Yellows had plenty of chances to take all three points, but were unable to get past a strong defence and a determined goalkeeper.
The Yellows came out of the game well. So much so that in the fourth minute they gave the first scare to the visitors’ goalkeeper through Rodri Alonso, who, after a good individual move by Quintero, struck with his right foot a ball that a defender deflected for a corner.
Miguel Álvarez’s men dominated the first quarter of an hour. Intercity, in a critical situation in the standings, were forced to defend close to their area and unable to get the ball under control in the face of the Yellows’ eagerness.
However, the team from Alicante began to wake up at the Mini Estadi and, from a corner, they had their first and practically only chance of the first half when San Emeterio’s left-footed shot from inside the area was easily dealt with by Iker Álvarez.
The goal eluded the Mini Submarine, and in the 38th minute they were to be denied a 1-0 lead after a triple chance. Quintero in the first instance and Rodri and Joseda later came up against a defender or the Intercity goalkeeper in their attempt to open the scoring.
At half-time Villarreal B and Intercity were level at 0-0.
Intercity did better at the start of the second half. The Alicante side made the most of their set-piece power and put the yellow defence in trouble.
Villarreal B’s response came from Etta Eyong. The Cameroonian, in the 58th minute, dared with a powerful right-footed shot that went just wide of the right-hand corner. It was the goal of the day.
Villarreal B had their clearest chance of the game in the 79th minute when the opposition defence incomprehensibly gave the ball away to Facu Viveros – who had come on a few minutes earlier along with Víctor Moreno – inside the six-yard box, the Argentine gave the ball to Requena and the Andalusian sent it over the crossbar. The Mini Submarine missed a great chance to take the lead.
Miguel Álvarez’s team tried until the end, who brought on Slavy in the final stretch to find the goal on the stroke of half-time, but it was not to be.
In the end, Villarreal B and Intercity played out an insufficient draw for both teams at the Mini Estadi.
Villarreal B’s next game will take place on Sunday 27th April, when they take on Real Murcia at 5:30pm at the Estadio Enrique Roca on Matchday 34 of the 2024/25 Primera RFEF season.
