The Mini Submarine were denied victory at the death against SD Tarazona despite taking the lead
Villarreal B saw victory slip away in the very last moments of their match against SD Tarazona (1-1) in a very physical encounter, in which the Mini Submarine had taken the lead in the 63rd minute thanks to Albert García.
The match got underway with a lot of balance and spells of shared possession between both sides, without any clear-cut chances. However, in the 15th minute, Villarreal B created the first opportunity when Budesca, with a powerful right-footed strike, forced the visiting goalkeeper into an excellent save. Shortly afterwards, Viveros had another chance, but his effort flew over the crossbar.
In the closing stages of the first half, Albelda’s side increased their dominance and enjoyed another opportunity. However, the goal continued to elude them. On this occasion, a great cross from Budesca could not be finished by either Álex Rubio or Facu Viveros. Meanwhile, the Aragonese side, who had not yet troubled Rubén Gómez, produced their best chance in stoppage time through a counter-attack led by Agüero, whose low cross-shot went wide.
After the break, the Mini Submarine stepped up a gear and began to threaten the opposition goal more clearly. Their persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when Albert García capitalised on a rebound following an initial effort from Etienne Eto’o and sent the ball into the back of the net (1-0). The goal gave wings to the Yellow Submarine, who looked to extend their lead but were unable to do so. At the other end, Rubén Gómez kept the team ahead with a superb save in the 85th minute to deny the equaliser.
And just when victory seemed assured for Villarreal B, the Aragonese side struck in the final play of the match, finishing off a counter-attack through Armero to level the score (1-1, 90+4’).
Villarreal B’s next match will be on Sunday 8th February, away to Gimnàstic de Tarragona at the Nou Estadi Costa Daurada.
