Jordi Ferriols’ side were unable to overcome a competitive Cacereño (0-0)
Villarreal Women earned a hard fought point on their visit to Cacereño (0-0). The Yellows pushed throughout the 90 minutes but could not find the breakthrough. In fact, they had to dig deep in the closing stages after being reduced to ten players following Alexia Jr.’s red card in the 81st minute. With two matches remaining in the league season, the Yellows have now secured their place in the promotion play-offs. They will now aim to pick up as many points as possible to finish as high as they can and secure home advantage.
The first half was extremely even. Neither side created clear scoring chances in a very intense contest in which the heat played a key role. The Yellows looked to control possession, while Cacereño pressed high in an attempt to force mistakes from Ferriols’ side.
After the break, the game followed a similar pattern. Both teams found it very difficult to create chances against well organised defences.

The best chance for the Yellows came in the 76th minute. Alexia Jr. went through one on one with the goalkeeper but was brought down before she could finish. A clear penalty that was not awarded by referee Josefa Sánchez.
Alexia Jr. was also involved in the next key moment. The Villarreal forward was sent off for protesting a refereeing decision in the 81st minute. The Yellows had to see out the final stages with ten players to secure a valuable point.
The Yellows’ next opponent will be CD Alba, with the match set to be played on Saturday 25th April at 4pm CET.
