Villarreal B earn a solid draw against Sabadell in a match where the wind played a key role
Villarreal B picked up a valuable point against Sabadell at the Mini Estadi (1-1) in a match where the Yellows overcame strong winds and a number of absentees – many due to international duty – to secure a creditable draw against the league leaders.
David Albelda’s side, the standout team so far in the second half of the Primera Federación season, once again showed their solidity and remain in the play-off positions.
The match was heavily influenced from the outset by the strong wind that swept across the training ground throughout the day. With few chances for either side – aside from an effort that struck the post from a corner – the first half was focused on controlling possession and, above all, avoiding costly mistakes.
The second half, despite the same conditions, was far more lively. In the 60th minute, the Yellows came close to scoring when Barry delivered a cross that Eto’o met unmarked, albeit under pressure, but his effort went wide.
However, it was the visitors who struck first. In the 69th minute, a defensive lapse from the hosts led to the 0-1, but the B team were not done yet. With two minutes remaining, Albert García swung in a cross from the right and Bonaldo, attempting to clear, turned the ball into his own net.
Villarreal B’s next match will be on Saturday 4th April against Marbella FC (4:15pm CEST) at the Banús Football Center in Matchday 31 of the competition.
