The Yellow Submarine’s head coach considers the draw fair after an “intense and highly competitive” match
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral explained after the match against Alavés (1-1) that it was a valuable point for the Yellow Submarine based on what happened on the pitch.
“It’s a good result for us. We conceded very little at the back, but in terms of creating chances we struggled quite a bit, and we would have liked to have had more possession and control than we did. We came with the intention of winning, but the game gradually evened out. It was intense, difficult for the spectators to watch, and very competitive.”
He also highlighted the challenge of Mendizorroza as a venue and considered the outcome fair: “We are happier with the result than with the performance because we already thought the match was lost and we managed to take a point. We didn’t play at the level we should have, but Mendizorroza is always an extremely tough stadium, and it has always felt that way throughout my coaching career. The result is fair, and neither side deserved to win.”
