The Yellows secure a convincing win at El Requexón and start 2026 with back‑to‑back victories
Villarreal Women picked up their second win of the newly begun year 2026 after overcoming and defeating Real Oviedo at El Requexón (1-4). The Yellows made their quality and firepower count on Asturian soil and now look upwards with optimism, aiming to establish themselves in the spots that grant access to the promotion play‑off.
From the opening whistle, Jordi Ferriols’ side showed, with dominance and intensity, that they are in great form. The Yellows controlled the ball and created the clearest chances in the first half. Before the 30‑minute mark, Villarreal Women were already leading 0-2 at El Requexón thanks to two stunning goals from Nerea and Alexia Jr.
The first goal, scored by the defender from Alicante, came from a brilliant looping shot by the Yellow captain towards the far post. At 0-1, the Submarine grew in confidence and found the second through the talent of Alexia Jr, who produced a superb individual strike. She received the ball from Medina, cut past her marker and unleashed a long‑range rocket that flew into the Oviedo net.
The Submarine were the clear dominant force and could have scored more in the first half. With an acrobatic effort, Aixa almost added another beauty to Villarreal Women’s collection of stunning goals in Oviedo. The player from Castellón connected with a fine driven cross from Nerea on the right side, but the ball drifted just wide of the post.
In the second half, Real Oviedo managed to pull one back after capitalising on a mistake by Montse Quesada, who misjudged a high ball from the right. Mbappé pounced on the loose ball inside the box and pushed it home to make it 1-2.
After the Asturian side’s goal, Ferriols’ team reacted with force and speed. Aixa Salvador made a run between the centre‑backs, received a through ball and beat Laura, the home goalkeeper, with a perfect finish. The Yellows made it 1-3 with ease, sinking the morale of the Oviedo side.
From that moment on, the Submarine controlled the ball and the tempo of the game. They barely allowed their opponents any chances and even allowed themselves the luxury of scoring the 1-4. Martuka won the race against her marker, faced the Real Oviedo goalkeeper and slotted home to seal the win.
