The Asturian coach has praised Elche’s excellent form ahead of the clash at the Martínez Valero (Saturday, 6:30 pm)
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media this Friday to preview the Yellow Submarine’s upcoming match against Elche CF, corresponding to Matchday 18 of LALIGA EA Sports, which will be played this Saturday at 6:30 pm at the Martínez Valero Stadium.
To begin his press conference, Marcelino expressed his excitement about starting 2026 with a victory: “It will be difficult, but we have that ambition. We know we’re playing in a tough stadium and against an opponent that is doing things very well.”
Along the same lines, the Asturian coach warned about Elche’s strong form, particularly at the Martínez Valero: “They haven’t lost at home. They have five wins and four draws, as well as many goals scored and few conceded. Their numbers at home are very strong. We must be solid at the back and effective in both boxes to get a good result. We know they are a difficult opponent and that Villarreal doesn’t usually find it easy to play there. We want to control the match and be effective in the areas.”
Regarding absences, Marcelino confirmed the return of Foyth and Mouriño, two important players in defense. Several academy players will also travel with the team: “Four young players will be coming with us: Alassane Diatta, Carlos Maciá, Hugo López and José Gaitán.”
