Villarreal CF defeat Getafe thanks to goals from Tajon Buchanan and Georges Mikautadze
Villarreal CF continue their excellent form in LALIGA and have recorded their sixth consecutive win in the domestic competition after convincingly beating Getafe CF (2-0) thanks to goals from Tajon Buchanan and Georges Mikautadze. Marcelino García Toral’s side remain in third place in the table with 35 points.
The match began with a great chance for the Yellow Submarine. Alberto Moleiro found Mikautadze, who was very close to opening the scoring, but David Soria kept out his effort in the one on one.
Getafe, true to their playing identity, tried to slow the tempo. The clearest chances for the visitors fell to Mayoral, but his shots failed to hit the target (m.15 and m.29).
Despite the constant interruptions, the Groguets kept pushing forward in search of a goal. Mikautadze once again tried his luck with a header that ended up in the hands of David Soria. And just when it looked as though the match would reach half time goalless, Tajon Buchanan fired a rocket into the back of the net from outside the box (1-0, m.45’+5).
Right at the start of the second half, Luis Milla was shown a red card for dissent after protesting a non-existent foul by Tajon Buchanan. With the visitors down to ten men, the Yellows made the most of their numerical advantage by pushing forward continuously in search of a second goal.
In the 52nd minute, it was once again the Georgian forward who came close to extending the lead, but David Soria denied him once more. And in the 64th minute, after a perfect long pass from Luiz Júnior, Mikautadze got his reward by outmuscling the Getafe defender and beating the goalkeeper (2-0).
In the final 20 minutes, the Yellow Submarine could have increased their lead on three further occasions. First through Alberto Moleiro (m.66), whose shot went wide. Then, both Georges Mikautadze and Manor Solomon found the net, although both goals were ruled out for offside.
Villarreal CF’s next match will be on Wednesday 10th December at 6.45pm CET against FC København, corresponding to MD6 of the UEFA Champions League.
