The Yellows pick up a point against Cacereño in a very physical encounter
Villarreal Women claimed a hard-fought point against Cacereño (1-1) in a match defined by its physical intensity, numerous duels and alternating spells of possession. Although the visitors from Extremadura took the lead early in the second half, Lauris levelled the game in the 55th minute.
The first clear chance of the match fell to María Macías, whose low shot went narrowly wide. Shortly afterwards, Cacereño responded through Noko Matlou, forcing Montse Quesada into action. Those early chances set the tone for what was to come: maximum balance and high physical demands. The Yellows kept pushing forward in search of a goal, and in the 16th minute, María Romero tried her luck from long range.
In the 34p minute, play was stopped after an unfortunate collision that forced visiting goalkeeper Tati to leave the pitch on a stretcher, being replaced by Delia Baz. Just before the break, Villarreal Women had a great opportunity when a precise cross from Sara Medina was inches away from being turned in by Aixa Salvador.
Early in the second half, Cacereño struck first. Acedo capitalised on a defensive error to win the ball and give the visitors the lead (0-1, 48’). Jordi Ferriols’ side reacted quickly, though. In the 55th minute, following a scramble in the box, Lauris pounced on a rebound from a Gigi Moreira shot to fire the ball into the back of the net and restore parity (1-1). The Yellows kept attacking until the final whistle, but could not find the winning goal, with both sides ultimately sharing the points.
Villarreal Women’s next fixture will be on Saturday 15th November at 6pm, away to Valencia at the Antonio Puchades Stadium.
