The Yellows pulled one back through Alexia Jr, but the Catalan side sealed the win late on
Villarreal Women, who came into the match on the back of four consecutive wins, were unable to extend their fine run and were defeated 1-3 by FC Barcelona B. Jordi Ferriols’ side reacted well in the second half with a goal from Alexia Jr after a difficult start, but the visitors’ finishing ultimately decided the match in their favour.
The game could not have started worse for the Yellows. In the second minute, Celia Segura put Barça B ahead with a powerful strike into the top corner that left Montse Quesada with no chance (0-1). Villarreal Women tried to respond with a long-range effort from María Macías, spotting Txell Font off her line, but the shot sailed just over. Aixa also had a chance on the counter, though her cross failed to find a teammate. In the 21st minute, the visitors doubled their lead through Natalia Escot (0-2), sending the game into half-time with a two-goal deficit.
After the restart, Villarreal pushed forward and created several opportunities. In the 65th minute, Aixa produced an excellent individual play, but her shot was cleared off the line. Lauris pounced on the rebound twice, only to see both attempts blocked by the Barça defence. Luck was not on Villarreal’s side.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 73rd minute when Alexia Jr reduced the deficit to 1-2. The Yellows continued pressing for an equaliser and created more chances, but the ball simply wouldn’t go in. In the closing minutes, FC Barcelona B put the result beyond doubt when Escot struck again with a superb shot into the top corner to make it 1-3 (85’).
Villarreal Women’s next match will be on Saturday 1st November at 12.30pm against Deportivo Alavés in Ibaia.
