Villarreal travel to Seville full of confidence to fight for victory in one of the most difficult grounds for the Yellows
Villarreal CF visit the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium this Tuesday at 9:30pm CEST. It will be as demanding as it is exciting for Marcelino’s side, who are looking for another win after the victory against Osasuna (2-1) at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
The Yellows head into the clash with confidence after their valuable and well-deserved win against the Navarre side. Marcelino’s men not only gave a great performance, but also showed tenacity and persistence to break down one of the toughest defences in the league.
A tough ground for the Yellows
With ten points on the board and sitting in a fantastic third place in LALIGA, Villarreal travel to Seville to take on Sevilla at one of the most difficult and demanding venues in the competition: the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
It has traditionally been a very tough ground for Villarreal, who have only managed four wins in their 23 visits there in the top flight.
A win in the last match at the Sánchez-Pizjuan
That statistic, however, is also a source of motivation for Marcelino’s men. Especially as, with the Asturian coach at the helm, Villarreal already know what it means to win at such a difficult ground. They did so in their last visit there last season. On Matchday 2 of the 2024/25 campaign, the Yellows defeated the Andalusians in a thrilling encounter. Danjuma put the Submarine ahead in the second minute, Lukebakio levelled just before half-time, and Ayoze Pérez secured the win in stoppage time with a powerful strike.
A new-look Sevilla side in good form
Sevilla were Villarreal’s final opponents last season, but this year’s side looks very different. Now coached by Matías Almeyda, the Andalusian team are intense, direct, and very hard-working. A committed and combative side, currently in good form.
They have reinforced their squad with Suazo, Cardoso, Mendy, Azpilicueta, Alexis, Alfon and Odysseas. Seven signings that have refreshed the team and generated enthusiasm among their fans.
As for recent results, Sevilla have taken seven points from the last nine available. They have beaten Girona (0-2) and Alavés (1-2) away from home, and drawn with Elche (1-1) at the Sánchez-Pizjuán. Their challenge is to get their first home win of the season, something Villarreal will try to prevent at all costs.
