The Villarreal coach highlighted his team’s offensive play and patience against Osasuna
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media after his side’s 2-1 victory over Osasuna at the Estadio de la Cerámica: “We played very well offensively. We showed patience against a very deep block. We did a great job and created many chances. With persistence, we deservedly turned the game around,” he said.
The Asturian coach also praised the team’s overall performance: “We performed very well in what was our best match, both those who started and those who came on in the second half from the bench. That is what I take away, and I am especially happy that the players who, for whatever reason, had played less until now, put in such a good performance.”
Marcelino also thanked the fans for their support, particularly in the second half: “Today the crowd really got behind us. It was a boost for the team. When new players feel that backing, they adapt more quickly too.”
The coach also singled out Luiz Júnior’s crucial saves in the closing stages: “With his interventions at the end, Luiz was very important and helped us secure three thoroughly deserved points.”
Finally, Marcelino stressed the need for defensive solidity, especially at La Cerámica: “I am satisfied with the team’s work and the victory, which is well deserved. The only area we weren’t quite as strong was defensively. At home it is important not to concede. That penalty at the end of the first half was a pity.”
