Aixa’s brace and Lauris’ goal power the team past CE Europa
Villarreal Women aimed to continue their good run after winning in the First Round of the Copa de la Reina and drawing in their last league game, and above all, to make their home ground a fortress. Mission accomplished. Villarreal Women dominated from start to finish to beat CE Europa 3-1, with a brace from Aixa and a goal from Lauris.
Jordi Ferriols’ side came out determined and were soon rewarded. In the sixth minute, Aixa Salvador opened the scoring with a superb volley over the goalkeeper (1-0). Despite the Catalan side trying to level the game with a shot from Clara, Montse Quesada denied them with an excellent save.
Villarreal Women kept up the intensity and continued creating chances. María Macías came close with a dangerous cross, and shortly afterwards Aixa almost doubled the lead with a fine individual effort, though luck was not on her side.
The second half began with Villarreal Women extending their advantage. In the 47th minute, Lauris scored a brilliant goal, turning her back to the defence inside the box and finishing with a shot that grazed the post (2-0).
With the score in their favour, Villarreal Women controlled the match comfortably. The Catalans barely threatened, aside from a header that went over in the 61st minute. It was only in added time that Europa managed to reduce the deficit, scoring in the 91st minute to make it 3-1.
