The Villarreal Women head coach is excited ahead of the league debut against Atlético de Madrid B
Villarreal Women head coach Jordi Ferriols spoke to the media to preview the team’s opening league match against Atlético de Madrid B, which will be played this Saturday at 7pm CEST at the Ciudad Deportiva José Manuel Llaneza.
Excited to get started
“We have prepared a lot this pre-season. We are really looking forward to and excited about starting the first game of our Primera Federación Iberdrola campaign.”
Assessment of pre-season
“Pre-season has left us with very good feelings. As a coaching staff, we are happy with the players’ work. The eight friendlies helped us to experience new situations and learn from mistakes. On a tactical level, we have a great group of players. I’ll repeat, we are eager for this to get underway.”
Nine new signings
“There are nine very good new signings. They have come here to add to the squad. On a personal level, they are fantastic too. From a sporting perspective, we know what they can contribute. We were looking for players who would strengthen the team. Between the players we already had and the new arrivals, we have a strong squad.”
The academy, an added value
“The girls’ side of the academy is growing a lot. In fact, this pre-season we have had several players from teams with us from U19s to U16s. The work being done is very good, and that helps the first team and the entire structure to develop.”
One objective
“The objective is to win the first match. The season is very long. As a team, we want to be united and ambitious. The league is long, just like pre-season, and we are starting off wanting to beat Atlético de Madrid.”
The opposition
“Atlético de Madrid are a young side, with character, and they play very directly. They will make things very difficult for us.”
The keys
“We have to put into practice what we have worked on in pre-season and compete well. It is a very tough league. We need to be prepared for all the different situations we will face over the year.”
