Romeo and Thiago, son and nephew of Raúl Albiol, extend their stay with the Yellow Submarine
The name Albiol evokes glory and deep respect among Villarreal CF fans, who have witnessed some of the greatest moments in the history of the Yellow Submarine with Raúl Albiol on the pitch—wearing the captain’s armband and leading the team to UEFA Europa League glory in 2021 and a memorable run to the Champions League semi-finals just a year later.
The legendary No.3 has bid farewell to Villarreal CF after six seasons and 201 appearances in yellow. A golden era that earned him the admiration of the fans, who paid tribute to him with a heartfelt ovation in the final league match against Sevilla FC. It was a well-deserved send-off for a player who leaves behind a lasting legacy at the club.
Now, that legacy will be carried forward by two members of the Albiol family: Romeo and Thiago Albiol—his son and nephew, respectively.
Romeo Albiol (born 2013) is a goalkeeper for Villarreal CF’s U12s (Alevín A). A promising young talent, he stands out for his lightning reflexes and commitment on the pitch. A natural leader like his father, Romeo recently took part in the 32nd edition of the ASCALE LaLiga FC Futures tournament, held for the third consecutive year at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
Older and blessed with a magical left foot, Thiago Albiol (born 2007) is the son of former footballer Miguel Albiol. An exciting attacking midfielder, he recently turned 18 and plays in the final third. With exceptional technical ability, Thiago has inherited the drive and ambition of his two great role models: his father and his uncle Raúl.
This season, he showed tremendous resilience, returning to action after a serious knee injury. Next year, he will play for Villarreal’s U19s (Juvenil A), the final stage before moving into amateur football. It’s a challenge Thiago faces with determination and hope—ready to shine, with the Albiol name proudly displayed on the back of his yellow shirt.
