Villarreal Women lose to the side from Madrid despite going ahead with Irene Miguélez’s header
Villarreal Women had a golden opportunity against Atlético de Madrid B, direct rivals and with two points less, to get back on track and move away from the bottom of the table. In fact, the Yellows could have taken the lead with a header from Irene Miguélez, but eventually succumbed to a goal from Emma Moreno in the 70th minute and another from Reyes Moreno in the 89th minute.
Villarreal Women came out all guns blazing from the opening whistle, as Lauris showed, and with the first ball she touched, she launched a very dangerous counter-attack. However, luck was not on her side and the ball ended up in the hands of the away goalkeeper.
The forward from Salamanca had another great chance in the 19th minute, but her shot went just over the crossbar. At the same time, the defence of Virginia García’s side was solid, neutralising Atlético de Madrid B’s continuous attempts on goal, led by Reyes Moreno.
The second half also started well for the Yellows. Aixa punctuated a ball and scored a goal, but it was disallowed for a dubious offside. However, it was not until the 51st minute when Irene Miguélez headed in a spectacular cross from Lauris (1-0).
However, Virginia García’s side eventually succumbed to the colchoneros. A goal from Emma Moreno in the 70th minute and another from Reyes Moreno in the 89th minute dashed all hopes of a point.
