A home goal in added team leave the Mini Submarine without a deserved win against Real Madrid Castilla
Villarreal B deserved to win in Madrid, but ended up leaving with a draw after conceding a goal in stoppage time. Miguel Álvarez’s side were the better team, but a late Jacobo goal prevented a 2-2 draw against Real Madrid Castilla. The scorers for the visitors were Etta Eyong and Víctor Valverde, in his first game for the B team.
It took just three minutes for Villarreal B to open the scoring at the Alfredo Di Stefano. A brilliant strike from Etta Eyong, who unleashed a shot from 40 metres out, made it 0-1 at Valdebebas.
Despite the joy of the goal, scoring so early did not seem to help the Mini Submarine, who dropped back against a Real Madrid Castilla side that reacted with momentum and left the visitors without the ball. In the 15th minute, they found the leveller from a set piece. Jacobo made it 1-1 getting on the end of a ball played into the box by Pol Fortuny.
From then on, the game became more even. Villarreal B took a step forward, starting to win more individual duels. Before the halfway point of the first half, Diatta had the second goal in his boots, but his shot from inside the box failed to find the target. Raúl Gónzalez’s side responded to that promising chance with a strong shot from Víctor Fernández, who forced Iker Álvarez into a great save.
The game went into the break with the score level at 1-1. Thirty seconds into the second half, as in the first half, Villarreal B surprised the home side again with a goal from Víctor Valverde. The Catalan attacker – who had only just come on to the pitch – scored from the first ball he touched as a Mini Submarine player. At half-time, Miguel Álvarez brought on the new Yellows No.9 and Rodrigo Alonso, replacing Facu Viveros and Alassane Diatta.
The Yellows made an impressive start to the second half. Shortly after, Requena could have made it 1-3, but his shot went wide. The Mini Submarine were unable to score and ended up paying dearly for it. In stoppage time and after an excellent second half, Jacobo jumped more than anyone else in the yellow area to score again with his head and put the score at 2-2. A result that punished Miguel Álvarez’s side, who deserved to win at the Alfredo Di Stefano.
