Villarreal Women end the first half of the season with 18 points
Villarreal Women, who had lost three in a row, managed to change their momentum on their visit to Cacereño, picking up a point with the aim of staying as close as possible to the play-off zone. Virginia García’s side tried everything they could, with Aixa, Nerea Vicente and Lucía Gómez all getting close, but all were thwarted by the Cacereño goalkeeper.
From the start, the players from both sides showed their intensity. In fact, Matlou gave the first warning sign to the Yellows, as she managed to get her head to a dangerous corner, which ended up going wide. A few minutes later, Aixa Salvador had the chance to respond. However, her shot was saved by the Cáceres goalkeeper.
Three minutes later, the Yellows continued to press. Nerea Vicente almost surprised the rival goalkeeper with an effort straight from a corner that went inches wide of the goal. Maria Ferreira and Aixa had two more chances, but fortune was not on their side either.
In the second half, the Yellows stood firm in defence, accompanied by a solid Montse Quesada in goal, preventing shots from Midori, Adela and Nora from putting the Extremadura side ahead.
Virginia García’s side continued to hound the home side’s goal, with the clearest chance of the game coming at the final whistle. It was in stoppage time when the Yellows had a free-kick on the edge of the area, which looked to be heading for the top corner, but Delia kept her hand out to keep the ball out.
In this way, Villarreal Women have a point and close the first round in Primera Federación, coinciding with the Christmas break, with 18 points. The next league game will be on the weekend of 12th January against Alhama CF at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.
Before that, Villarreal Women will play one last game this year against Real Madrid at the Mini Estadi, corresponding to the last 16 of the Copa de la Reina (20th December, 7pm CET).
