Villarreal Women head coach Virginia García has analysed the upcoming Copa de la Reina match against AEM (Wednesday, 7:30pm CET).

Copa de la Reina: a new competition, the same enthusiasm
“We are really looking forward to it. It’s a competition that brings back very good memories for me personally, because I won it in 2015 as a player and it’s the first game I’m going to coach in the Copa de la Reina. We have been training very well over the last few days, with a lot of enthusiasm and the desire to continue doing well, not only in the league, but also to get through the tie against AEM. We know it’s going to be a difficult tie at a difficult ground, but we’re working well and we have a very large and complete squad to face these next matches. And, above all, we are looking forward to making it through to the next round.”
A message for the team
“I am a coach who lives in the moment and is very passionate about things and I like to pass that passion on to the players. The players are also very enthusiastic about this competition, about continuing to work and doing things well. We are going to represent Villarreal CF in this competition. We want to get through the knockout stages, compete at a difficult ground, as AEM are opponents who have come from eliminating RCD Espanyol (Liga F) in the previous round, so I want to transmit that enthusiasm, that passion and that desire that by doing things well we can do it.”
The opposition: AEM
‘Ultimately it’s a one-legged tie and AEM are a team who compete very well in this type of match. It’s a difficult ground, with different dimensions to what we have, and they’re going to make things very difficult for us. Last year they also did very well in this competition, but we are convinced in ourselves, in our squad, and we know that we can get through the tie with good football.”
An opportunity for the academy
“More than rotations, we are going to see opportunities. We have a very good squad and a very good base, with many B-team players in the first-team dynamic who are working very well, and sometimes it is difficult to give them that opportunity in the league, but we are going to see many B-team players in this squad. Ultimately it’s a reward for the work they do every day with us. We can see that Villarreal are very committed to their youth system, for the good work they are doing at youth level, and we are going to give them all a chance.”
