Tiago Geralnik managed to level the match for Villarreal B against AD Mérida from the penalty spot
Villarreal B did not have an easy game, as they travelled to Extremadura to face a tough team like AD Mérida. Miguel Álvarez’s men were able to suffer throughout the 90 minutes to take an important point thanks to Tiago Geralnik’s goal from eleven yards.
In the early stages of the game, Villarreal B were dominant in all areas of the game. In fact, they had the first two chances through Arnau Solà and Thiago Ojeda, but luck was not on their side. On the other hand, Mérida were rewarded on the counter-attack. Liberto broke free down the flank and, after a cross to the far post, Pablo García finished off to put the Extremadura side ahead (1-0, m.13).
The rest of the first half had little more to it, as while AD Mérida grew in intensity after the goal, the Mini Submarine had to resist several onslaughts and stay together in their area.
The introduction of Pau Cabanes in the second half revolutionised the rhythm of the game. In the 50th minute he was brought down by Bonaque inside the area. It was Miguel Álvarez’s team’s chance and they made the most of it. It was Tiago Geralnik who took the penalty and levelled the match (1-1, min. 51).
And, on this occasion, it was Miguel Álvarez’s side who came out stronger for the goal. The Yellows had several more chances, led by the speedy Etta Eyong, but the first was saved by the Extremadura defence and the second was saved by the home keeper with the toe of his foot. The last great chance came from Arnau Solà, who fired a powerful direct shot from the edge of the area, which the AD Mérida goalkeeper was unable to keep out. With the scores level, the game came to an end and Villarreal B earned a point at a difficult ground to visit.
