The head coach has underlined Villarreal’s good performance, but was frustrated with at not being clinical
Villarreal CF head coach, Marcelino García Toral, assessed the defeat against Real Madrid (2-0) at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Yellows’ head coach praised the good play and competitiveness of the Yellows at the Bernabéu: “We played a good game, being competitive and putting Real Madrid in trouble in several phases of the match. We lacked a few more chances. Especially in the second half, but above all what we lacked was being clinical. Our opponents did. It’s a pity that we didn’t have more clarity up front because, given the way the match was going, we could have scored something here.”
In addition, he underlined that the home team, despite the victory, did not put the Yellows in too much trouble: “We were not overpowered at any time. We played at a good level and they did very little in attack. It was the game they generated the least at the Bernabéu. That’s why we’re satisfied, but we lacked the bite to hurt them more.”
On the other hand, Marcelino valued the Submarine’s good start to the season, despite Saturday’s defeat at the Bernabeu: “We are very satisfied with the players’ work. We need to continue with this ambition. Now comes the international break. We have a lot of injured players. We hope to recover people to face the four matches that come next. Let’s see if we are able to convert this into a lot of points.”
