“Villarreal are a great team and they have had a great start to the season. Besides, I had been wanting to return to Spain for several years and enjoy my home league again. So when Villarreal gave me the opportunity, I didn’t hesitate. I’m convinced that it’s the right place for me to continue growing. I’m here to help the team and to contribute,’ he explained in his introduction.
When asked what he can bring to the team and what his objectives are, the new defender did not hesitate: “I have a lot of experience, because I have played in big teams and in big competitions. I’m here to add to the team and to be able to achieve the objectives at the end of the season. And as a team, we want to try to finish as high as possible in the standings and the best thing would be to get into Europe. However, we will take it one game at a time.”
In relation to which position he prefers due to his versatility, Juan Bernat explained that he is at the disposal of whatever the coach needs: “I’ve played almost all my career as an attacking full-back, which is where I feel most comfortable, but I’m ready to play in whatever position I’m in.”
Finally, he praised the figure of Marcelino: “He’s a head coach who always gets the most out of his players. All his teams always compete at a high level, and I like that, which is key to achieving the objectives.”
