Villarreal held to scoreless draw after Danjuma’s missed penalty in a game of few chances
Villarreal were the better side against Nottingham Forest but were unable to make their dominance count in the 0-0 draw at the City Ground. In a match of few chances, Arnaut Danjuma’s missed penalty and a golden late opportunity for the home side saw the match end goalless.
There were few surprises in Marcelino’s starting XI for the fourth match of pre-season. The Yellows were rewarded for their strong start as they were awarded a penalty on the quarter-hour mark.
Ramon Terrats broke into the Forest box before being brought down by Murillo. Danjuma stepped up but his penalty struck the post.
The hosts started to find their rhythm in the match and looked to test Diego Conde’s goal. Chris Wood came close with a powerful drive from a cross from the right-hand-side.
The second half saw the Yellow Submarine regain control. Danjuma tested Matz Sels’ reflexes with a fierce effort from the edge of the box.
The game entered the closing stages without opportunities of note. With the clock ticking down to full-time, the home side looked to secure a late winner. Their biggest chance arrived a minute from time as Taiwo Awoniyi went through one-on-one against Iker Álvarez, but the Yellows shot-stopper pulled off a stunning save, before the referee blew for full-time.
