The Villarreal captain will continue to lead the Yellows back line until June 2025
Villarreal CF have reached an agreement for Raúl Albiol’s contract renewal. The defender will continue to wear yellow next season, until June 2025.
At nearly 39 years old, Raúl Albiol wants to keep playing to the top level and he wants to do so for Villarreal CF. The Yellows skipper led the Submarine’s defence last season, playing a total of 30 official matches, 27 of those as a starter.
Since his arrival at the club in 2019, Raúl Albiol has played a total of 185 official matches at Villarreal CF, contributing his experience and consistency to the Yellows defence. The footballer from Villamarchante is already a legend at the club. One of the greats who will go down in the club’s history as part of the team to lift the UEFA Europa League and compete in the UEFA Super Cup in 2021 and reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League one year later in 2022.
Before coming to the Submarine, Raúl Albiol had an illustrious career at top clubs such as Real Madrid, SSC Napoli and Valencia CF. Throughout his career, he was a regular in the Spanish national team, forming part of the historic side that lifted the treble of the 2008 European Championship, 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship.
