The Villarreal CF president has confirmed that the works at the Estadio de la Cerámica are on schedule
Fernando Roig, Villarreal CF president, appeared this Monday at a press conference with the mayor of Vila-real, José Benlloch, to analyse the current situation of the transformation works at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The inauguration of the new-look stadium will take place on 31st December 2022, when Unai Emery’s side will face Valencia CF in the game corresponding to Matchday 15 of the 2022/23 LaLiga Santander.
In May 2022, the ambitious transformation of the Yellows stadium began, which as the president acknowledges, is on course to meet the initial forecasts: “The works are on schedule and that is the most important thing, as we want to reopen the Estadio de la Cerámica for Villarreal vs Valencia, which will be played on 31st December.”
Although the stadium will be fully prepared to host the Valencia derby, the works will not be completed until the beginning of March, the month in which Villarreal celebrate 100 years of history: “For the first game, there will still be things to do, but the most important thing is that on the 31st the match can be played and fans can take their seats. The transformation of the Estadio de la Cerámica, which should be completely finished by the end of February or the beginning of March, is a very ambitious project in which both the construction company and the engineering company are doing a great job that want to recognise and are thankful for.”
In addition, Roig highlighted the efforts of the fans, who fill the stands at the Ciutat de València every time the Submarine play at home: “The response of the supporters in the last LaLiga match against Sevilla was spectacular. A lot of people came and, so far, the response from the fans in the league and the Conference League games has been very good. I’m confident we will have their support this Thursday because we have a very important game ahead of us.”
Benlloch: “The reform brings a lot to Vila-real”
José Benlloch, Vila-real mayor, accompanied Villarreal CF president Fernando Roig in the press conference at the Estadio de la Cerámica: “We’re very grateful for the pace of the works and we are sure that all expectations will be met. It is a major renovation that will improve the access and comfort to the stadium. It contributes a lot to the town of Vila-real.”
