Villarreal B are playing for a place in the second tier once more. The Yellows will face UD Logroñés this Sunday, at 6pm CEST at A Malata (Ferrol), in the play-off semi-finals for promotion to Segunda División.

El Villarreal B ha disputado el ‘play-off’ a Segunda División en cuatro ocasiones. En la campaña 2009-10 logró el ascenso tras vencer al Jaén CF (0-0 y 1-2) en la final, eliminando antes al Zamora CF (0-2 y 2-0) y al CF Lorca Deportiva (1-0 y 2-3).
Villarreal B have played in promotion play-offs to Segunda División on four different occasions. In the 2009/10 season they were promoted after beating Jaen CF (0-0 and 1-2) in the final, knocking out Zamora CF (0-2 and 2-0) and CF Lorca Deportiva (1-0 and 2-3) in the previous rounds.
In their second time in the promotion play-offs to the second tier, the Mini Submarine faced UD Logroñés in the quarter-finals of the 2015/16 campaign. The Yellows lost on the away goals rule, after drawing at Las Gaunas (0-0) and doing the same a Miralcamp (1-1). In that tie, Pablo Iñiguez played for the Yellows, as did first-team player Alfonso Pedraza.
Later in 2018, Villarreal B fell just short, after losing the two-legged final against Elche, being defeated at the Martínez Valero (2-0) and winning at Miralcamp (2-1). They had previously knocked out Bilbao Athletic (1-3 and 0-2) and CF Fuenlabrada (0-0 and 2-0):
A year later, the Mini Submarine reached the play-off promotion stage once more, after a fantastic season in the regular league. The Yellows lost to UD Melilla (0-2 and 2-1) in the first round.
UD Logroñés sealed a play-off place on the last day of the regular season
UD Logroñés qualified for the promotion play-offs in their last game of the season. The side from La Rioja, after a great campaign, beat Cultural Leonesa 1-2 and finished fifth.
