Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared in front of the media to analyse the upcoming game against Linares Deportivo (Saturday 13th November, 5pm CET).
Difficulty of the league
“We don’t want to show off after wins because defeats come quickly. Nothing has changed. They’re boys who are working hard after defeats and after wins. This is a very difficult league, there’s not much between the teams and small details can change matches. Alcoyano, for example, set up really well, but if we score before them, everything could have turned out differently.”
Aims
“The objectives are for the boys to continue growing as they approach elite football, as they approach the first team, but I don’t have any other objective. In five years here, they’ve never spoken to me about objectives. I like to focus on what depends on me, which is individual growth for the boys, so the team is strong and they can reach the first team. It’s also down to me to help instill values in them because not any player can plan for Villarreal, and I tell them what they don’t want to hear, but always from a caring place.”
Linares Deportivo
“They’re a team I like a lot. I’ve seen them compete against top teams like Albacete, Baleares, Nastic and Barça B. How they set up is sensational in footballing terms, but minor details mean they haven’t had luck. They’re a team that want to grow with the ball, and their pressing from the front is tremendous. In this division, every match is a match to enjoy, and the environment at Linarejos will impress the boys, and they need to be used to that, and if they can’t get used to that, they won’t be able to play in the top flight.”
