The Villarreal manager underlines that the team knows the importance of the game against Leganés
A very important match. Villarreal head coach Javi Calleja underlined this lunchtime that his team is focused to return to winning ways after the game against CD Leganés (Sunday, 6:30pm CET). “We’re only thinking of winning. We know the importance of the match. We’re playing at home and if we want to be in European positions we need to lose less than our direct rivals. A win would bring us closer to the European spots. We will go out with that mentality and we’re working well this week to get the win,” he commented.
Despite that, Calleja warned about the difficulty of the match: “Leganés are in a complicated situation. They’re a team who are always competing as much as possible and I’m sure that they’re going to do it once more. Each match is like a final for them and they’ll come to give everything. We need to forget about the table. We’re not thinking of where Leganés are in the table. Our experience tells us that playing against teams lower down is extremely complicated.”
For the manager, the Estadio de la Cerámica needs to be a fortress: “Matches at home are key. Winning all of those matches would be nearly decisive to be playing in Europe.”
Calleja concluded by saying he wants to put the controversial refereeing performance from the last game behind him: “We want to focus on the game and forget about the refereeing. We have to be better to win games, without allowing controversial decisions to be decisive.”
