Miguel Álvarez’s side were better than their opponents, but they lacked a killer touch in the final third
So close to victory. Villarreal B drew 1-1 against UE Olot in an even tie in terms of play, but a game where the Yellows had the best chances. The Mini Submarine’s goal came from Dani Villa. The away side’s equaliser came from Chavarría.
The opening moments of the clash were balanced. Both teams went onto the pitch looking to take possession of the ball and dominate their opponents. There were few clear chances early on, but Villarreal B surprised Olot in the 27th minute. A great piece of play down the left saw the Yellows get on the scoreboard. Villa fired home a great Edu Adell cross. Despite the goal, neither side changed their plan. Olot continued fighting for the ball and looking for long-balls over the back of the Yellows’ full-backs.
At the start of the second half, Olot stepped it up a notch and forced the Yellows to put in the hard work in defence. Despite that, the Mini Submarine looked dangerous on the counter as they tried to get another goal to make their lead more comfortable.
In the 72nd minute, the equaliser came, with Chavarría sending the ball past Josele.
The leveller made the Yellows push forward to try and get their second. Just four minutes after the away side scored, Álex Millán got on the end of a ball in the area and was unable to find the back of the net in a great chance to put his side in front.
The Yellows went close again with not long left. Álex Baena, after a great piece of skill in the area to get away from two defenders, was denied by Ballesté.
With Villarreal B fighting to get the winner, the match came to a close, where the Yellows were denied an important victory by a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
