Andrés Fernández underlines the whole team’s commitment in their fight for survival
Villarreal goalkeeper Andrés Fernández appeared in front of the Villarreal TV microphones after the win against Eibar, which confirmed the Yellows’ place in the top flight of Spanish football next season. “It is a very important win for the club, for the town, for the fans, and for all of us. It has been a difficult year, where we’ve suffered a lot,” expressed the Yellows No.13.
Fernández praised the dedication and commitment from all of the team, who worked as hard as possible to confirm survival: “The team was aware of what was at play. The team showed unity and trained really hard. In the worst moments, we helped each other in the dressing room.”
The goalkeeper, who has started the last few games, thanked the manager for his trust: “The coach believes that I could bring something and I tried to do that as best as possible with the aim of winning matches and confirming survival, which was the main aim.”
Finally, he hailed the fans’ support during a match that was crucial for Villarreal’s future: “They cheered louder than ever. From the beginning, they’ve been with us. On the pitch, you could really feel their encouragement. Without the fans, we wouldn’t have done it.”
