Javi Calleja is optimistic about his return and being able to turn around the team’s current situation
Villarreal manager Javi Calleja this lunchtime appeared in front of the media after returning to the Yellow Submarine’s bench. The head coach underlined that he is returning ‘stronger’ with ‘more confidence and more conviction than ever’.
The head coach underlined that he’s excited about the challenge ahead: “When the president got in contact with me I didn’t doubt it for a moment. I’m aware of the situation and I’m convinced I can get us out of it. Mi wish has always been to be here for a number of years.”
For Calleja, his break from the Villarreal bench helped him reflect: “This time has helped me reflect and look at what I’ve been doing right and wrong. I’ve seen all the matches. Now I’m more convinced than ever that we’re going to get out of it. There’s a before and after. I like to be on the ball. If I had faith in my ways before, I have much more now. In the previous era, we allowed certain minute details to get away from us. They then became big issues and made us lose points. Between all of us that make up Villarreal, we’re going to get out of it.”
The manager wanted to underlined why he returned: “I have come back for three reasons. The first is the players. I trust them and I am convinced that between all of us we can get out of this situation. I believe in the team. The second reason is Villarreal. My heart made this decision. I want to help as much as I can. I will never leave the club I love hanging. The third is Fernando Roig. He has put his trust in me and I can’t let him down. I will die for him. If necessary, I will put my life on the line until we get out of this.”
Finally, Calleja underlined that there will be no more signings for Villarreal in the winter market: “I don’t want another signing. We’ve got ourselves into this situation and we will get ourselves out of it.”
