Jorge and Martín Agustina and Héctor and Xavi Royo dream of becoming professional footballers
Passion for the Yellows, both at home and on the pitch. The Yellows Academy is full of siblings who each weekend compete defending the Villarreal CF badge. They’re groguets 24/7. The brothers’ relationship has a special link: football, or more specifically, Villarreal CF.
Jorge and Martín’s surname is Agustina Llopis. Jorge is the older brother, and plays for the U12s B (Alevín B) as an attacker, while Martín is a defender for the U10s B (Benjamín B).
Héctor and Xavi share the Royo Méndez surname. Héctor is a defender for the U14s B (Infantil B), Xavi played as an attacker for the U10s A (Benjamín B).
It is normal for them to support each other. They give each other advice, suffer when the other one suffers, or enjoy their brother’s success. Saying that, it does not mean there is not a little bit of brotherly banter, although always in a healthy way. “My brother is very good, but I score more than him,” a laughing Xavi says about Héctor. The older Royo brother (Héctor is 13), is sure that his eight-year-old brother has a bright future ahead of him: “My brother likes to showboat a lot. He often plays as a midfielder or a striker and honestly, he plays very well.”
The Agustina brothers share everything. They even have the same make and model of football boots. So they don’t fight. Saying that, each of them wear a different size. Martín, the younger one (born in 2010), recognises that his brother is a bit better than him. But only a bit. “Jorge plays on the wing or as a No.10. He is a bit better than me, but only because he’s older,” he joked.
Jorge (born in 2008), praised his brother: “The truth is that Martin is a very good player. He often plays in defence and I like how he shoots with his right foot.”
Each of them watch their brother’s training sessions and go to the matches. They’re a team alongside their parents. They all have the same dream of playing for Villarreal’s first team one day. There are a number of examples in football history of brothers playing professionally, such as former Yellows Jonathan and Giovani dos Santos, or Theo and Lucas Hernández, Thiago and Rafinha Alcántara, Saúl and Aarón Ñíguez, Frank and Ronald De Boer, Diego and Gabriel Milito, Paolo and Fabio Cannavaro or Eden and Thorgan Hazard, as well as others. The Agustinas and the Royos could also be on the list one day.
